Food

Have you ever noticed when you have friends/family come to stay or you go on a holiday, everything seems to evolve around food. Its like you get up in the morning and immediately you’re thinking what to do for lunch or planning the menu for dinner.

Like the week I recently spent in New Zealand was filled with the most amazing meals and I came home a kilo heavier than I left (mind you my case did too but thats another story…yep more new shoes!) but now my sister and brother in law are staying with us for a few days and I’m sure I’m about to gain more weight! We’ve already been out to dinner once, out to lunch twice and I hear we’re dining out again tonight….when does it stop?

Generally I skip breakfast (but not the habitual morning coffee!), am lucky to snack on something light for lunch and go home to prepare a basic but nutritional dinner. Get me in holiday mode or a house full of visitors and I’m constantly thinking food and not just any food…gourmet, calorie filled, stomach bulging meals! Whats with that?

My sister is leaving tomorrow and I’m not due any more holidays for awhile. Reckon I might drag in the ‘welcome’ mat, put a lock on the fridge and hibernate for the winter just like a squirrel. (BTW…what do squirrels eat just incase I get peckish…nuts?)

I notice the same thing. We have out of town guests and whammo! Out comes the food and the phone goes wild with dinner reservations.

I think it’s mostly because catching up/visiting with friends and loved ones is normally a fun and relaxed event, that food just kind of ties it all together. Like a fine wine with dinner.

I’m just thankful that guests don’t come every day. I wouldn’t be able to fit through my front door!

TheMrs you are so right! I love to have guests too but I would end up sooo obese if they visited weekly.

Yeah…what about let’s go for a jog or let’s hit the gym…but then that would take all the fun away wouldn’t it?

It would be a most unpopular destination…lol

I had exactly the same experience on my recent trip to NZ. We were staying with friends and ate heavily. One day we ha a rather filling snack in town and when we returned to their house they had cooked a meal. We were still very full and looked at it with dismay but of course it would have been impolite to refuse!
